Caring for your mental health

You’ve probably heard the term “mental health” before, but do really know what it is or how to care for it? Well mental health is simply the level of well being, and how healthy your mind is. There are many things that you can do to care for your mental health and all of these things are very simple and can be done at any time. They range from things such as meditation and prayer, to things like singing and dances. As you read this article, maybe you will be inspired to try some of these strategies and keep yourself healthy and happy!

The first step to caring for your mind is to care for your body. If you don’t care for your body and think poorly of yourself, then how do you expect to be able to care for your mind? As you’ve already been told probably multiple time, people who are active and in good physical health are less likely to develop mental health problems such as depression and anxiety. Not only this, but caring for your body will give you lots more energy and help you be able to cope better with things like stress. Some ways you can do this is by eating good nutritious food (although treating yourself every so often won’t hurt you), drink plenty of water, avoid harmful substances such as tobacco and alcohol, and make sure to get 8-9 hours of sleep most, if not every night.

As you grow older you will encounter toxic people, and people who will make you feel happy. You want to surround yourself with people who encourage you to do your best, and make you feel good about yourself. Studies show that people who have good close relationships with friends and family are much happier and healthier than people who don’t. When your surround yourself with happy people, you, yourself will oftentimes “catch their smile” and find yourself smiling along with them. Smiling in itself actually reduces stress and anxiety, releases chemicals called endorphins that improve your mood making you happier, and even makes your seem more trustworthy.

As every knows you can’t avoid stress, so rather than trying to run away from it how about you learn how to deal with it! After all if your feeling stressed out and under the weather, than your definetely not in your best mental state. Learning how to deal with stress often times people will brush off and shove to the side since they. Some may say they simply don’t have time or think it’s such a tedious thing to do they find it not worth their time. Well small things such as dancing while doing daily chores, dancing, singing, writing, or even meditating/praying can go a long way when dealing and coping with stress. See Dealing with Stress for more ways to help you learn how to cope and deal with the everyday stress in your life.

The last and most important way to benefit and boost your mental health is to simply value yourself. You are the only you, so strive to do and be your best and remember that no matter how powerful and great you may be, it never hurts to take time for yourself and care for yourself. Remember to never talk down on yourself and treat yourself with things you enjoy such as watching your favorite movie while eating a yummy snack or maybe you enjoy going out with a few friends and having fun at a bowling alley or a carnival. Don’t have any money to spend? That’s not a problem! See 103 Things to Do on a Money-Free Weekend for some more ideas on how to have fun with no money!

I hope that after reading this you feel inspired to try some of these strategies and help improve your mental health, and maybe learned a few things about how you can do this! After all you only have one mind just like you only have one body, so learn to care for it now so you can live a healthy and happy life.
