On November 1st, 2021 a brave group of writers and creative minds (including myself) traveled off campus towards Selinsgrove to seek knowledge from well-versed professionals. Led by Mrs. Miller we boarded the bus and traveled at a legal and completely safe speed towards the college campus. On the long weary 32 minute ride to Selinsgrove, the bus was filled with fun uplifting energy, and laughter with wisecracking jokes and creative ideas being shared around. Upon reaching the Seahawks campus our group was brought into a large waiting hall where a buffet of coffee and multiple types of donuts and muffins awaited.
While in the waiting area we went over our schedules and mingled with our fellow group mates. Getting exclusive photos behind the scenes prior to our group entering the auditorium and reveling in the lavishness of the campus.
After some time all students on the trip were brought to the auditorium where they were introduced to a round table of Professors specialized in specific writing fields. 4 out of the 7 university professors in the English department came to answer questions on writing and share chapters from their books or other forms of writings examples. Questions were fielded to students in the auditorium where we were given the opportunity to ask about the writing process. The students within the auditorium were given advice on joining the college writing programs in the summer for improvement and learning new styles of writing or potential for submission of writings to the college paper designed to highlight student writings.
After this, the Greenwood group briefly discussed plans and moved to lunch. Not before snapping a quick group photo together in the auditorium.
A quick buffet provided by the school was given to all groups there and after enjoying the meal we were gathered off into groups and led to two different writing workshops of each student's own personal choice.
One workshop was dedicated to writing slam poetry off of random objects or words that they would then construct poetry from. Members involved during that workshop found it so enjoyable that they were driven to take a selfie with the Professor in charge of the poetry workshop. Many different examples
Within the second workshop members of the group were given the challenge of writing short stories off of random subjects. Those involved in the process kept hold of their writings and loved the experience of getting the ability to write silly stories.
After their adventures in writing the brave group of greenwood writers ventured to the Seahawks lounge where they relaxed and ordered coffee and other goods discussing their times and sharing the experience they had at the University. On the way out information packets were given for the different programs the university held. Overall it was a very informative trip that all students involved did enjoy. The Summer Writing workshop is able to be signed up for on the university's website and it will take place this summer starting July 24th.
