Fall Fun

How many of you like fall? I know I do. Fall is my favorite season for many reasons. One of which is the weather, you can wear a sweatshirt and not be freezing but not sweating. It’s also very beautiful with all of the colors of the leaves. The most important reason is haunted attractions/scary movies and fall festivities. There are so many good scary movies/haunted attractions, as well as fall festivities. I am a fan of many and so are others but they don’t know what is worth their while. I can help with that! Let’s dive into some great haunted attractions, scary movies, and fun fall festivities.

Let's start out with my personal favorite, haunted attractions. There are so many good options right in Pa. One of my favorites is right in our backyards, Terror Farm in Newport, Pa. It is very inexpensive yet gives a great show. Their actors are all local people that love Halloween as much as anyone else. They dedicate their time and energy all year every year and give everyone a great time. Field of Screams in Mountville, Pa is another great choice. It is a little more expensive but has a lot more options to choose from. Jason's Woods in Lancaster, Pa is another great option. It is less expensive but is cash only so make sure you have money before you go. Let's get into some attractions near Philly. Eastern State Penitentiary is a great haunted attraction, it used to be a prison but has since shut down and become a historic site. However, during Halloween it includes 15 haunted attractions, price varies by night but is typically around 35 or 40 dollars. Pennhurst Asylum haunted attractions in Spring City, Pa is another great choice. Just like the Penitentiary, Pennhurst asylum experiences a lot of paranormal activity, it's a huge reason people love to go. You can come and experience overnight paranormal investigations as well as the normal attractions. The normal attractions are not very expensive however the paranormal investigation is around $100. All of these are great attractions, some close, some far as well as inexpensive and some are more expensive but definitely worth it.

Scary movies are a huge part of fall and Halloween, a lot of channels on tv play them every night in October. Not only television does this but so do movie theaters. Movie theaters and drive-ins play scary movies around Halloween to bring in more people and satisfy the general public. If you don’t want to go out you can always stay in, many services like Netflix and Hulu have Halloween movies on them as well. Some famous ones are The Conjuring, Scream, IT, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Saw, and The Ring. There are so many more beyond these but if we got into that we would be here a long time. If you’re not one for scary movies there are still some great Halloween movies. Some of my favorites are Halloweentown, Hocus Pocus, Coraline, The Adams Family, and Paranorman. However, haunted attractions and movies aren’t the only fun things to partake in, in the fall.

Among everything listed above, there are also lots of fun things to do outside of the scary things. Butchers Family Fun Farm in Newport, Pa is a great place to visit. They have a corn maze, huge slides, and other fun activities. Afterward, you can pick pumpkins and take them home to carve. Pumpkin carving is a very common fall tradition that everyone likes to do. Paulus Orchard in Dillsburg, Pa is also a beautiful and fun place to spend a day. You can pick apples, race pedal carts, go through a corn maze along with many other activities created by the owners themselves.

Now that we’ve covered some awesome things to do in October I hope you do some yourself. There's still plenty of time to do it and some are so inexpensive if not free. Take the time to enjoy fall and make the most of it. Everything listed above will help you do so, so have fun!
