On Saturday, October 13th Greenwood High school had their homecoming soccer game. The JV game started to then be followed by the Homecoming Ceremonies.
During the ceremony, the Greenwood High School Marching Band played and the Homecoming King and Queen were revealed. This year’s king was Luke Myers and this year’s queen was Abby Weger.
Before the game, I had the pleasure of interviewing Senior soccer player, Luke Myers, about what he was feeling about the game. Here is the interview.
Question 1: Are you excited for you last Homecoming Soccer game?
Response: I am very excited for the homecoming game. It normally has the most fans. I love having a lot of support. Also, it’s such an awesome experience having the ceremony between games.
Question 2: What was your favorite memory from playing High School soccer at Greenwood?
Response: It’s difficult to pick just one memory from my high school soccer career. One this season that I will never forget though is when Tyler Shomper scored his first Varsity goal. The players on the field and our bench went crazy because Stomp!
Question 3: What do you think you will miss most after you graduate?
Response: What I will miss most is being with my friends. We’ve made so many memories in school, at sporting events or other activities.
Question 4: How do you think you and the team will do in the game?
Response: I believe we will do well. It will be a tougher game though. Halifax is good competition for us but we beat them the first time so I think we can again.
Question 5: How far do you think the team will go looking forward into the season?
Response: I believe we will have a great chance at winning the league. I am looking to go far into districts and states as well.
Question 6: What advice can you give to the underclassmen players to help them succeed?
Response: Put your full effort into practice because it will pay off in the game. If you have a good, open shot, take it. Be humble. Have fun.
The score of the JV game was Greenwood 0 and Halifax 1.
The Varsity Game’s starting line-up for Greenwood was as follow:
Senior Andy Loy scored the first goal of the game for Greenwood. The second goal was made by Senor Luke Myers from an amazing corner kick. He kicked the ball and it hit the edge of the goal. Then it curved into the goal! At the end of the half Greenwood had a total of 2 goals and Halifax had made 0.
In the second half of the game, Luke Myers made a penalty kick giving Greenwood 3 points. Greenwood won the game with scoring 3 points and Halifax scoring 0 points.
Greenwood had a great game on Saturday and by the way the student section cheered the team on, I’m sure the players had fun during the game.
The Varsity team’s league record is currently 5-0 and overall record is 12-0.
