If you’ve been living under a rock for the past four months, you wouldn’t of known that the New California state is becoming official. So official that almost all of California wants in on the fun. Except LA and a few others. This includes but isn’t limited to Monterey, San Luis Obispo, and Santa Barbara (I’m too lazy to type out each county). But it's pretty cool how they thought that it’d be a smart idea to make this.
According to the official New California Website, they wish to split off because of different views(?) and because California is a “tyranny” (which is literally said first thing). “The U.S. Declaration of Independence of 1776, the Alta California Declaration of Independence of 1836 and the Sonoma Proclamation of 1846 declared the Right of the People in the states of Alta California and California respectively to throw off the bonds of tyranny.” Oh and they also say they’re sick of California’s way of governing and say that within the Declaration of Independence, they have the right to do this because they’re not safe or happy. First things first, they have to get a group of people to join the movement, which then later turns into counties. When it’s been settled that this group can govern without any real need of support, it’ll officially become number 51.
Now for those who like politics and stuff, if New California becomes a thing, it will have an estimated 25-27 seats in the House of Representatives. While Old California (it hasn’t been decided if this will be the official name) will lose 25-27 seats in the House of Representatives. Also it’ll become the 6th largest state while California will be the 2nd most populated state (right behind good ol’ yee haw Texas). The 5 most southern New California counties will have a population of 11 million (for comparison, California currently has about 39.54 million living in the state, while Canada has 36.29 million).
Finally, if you’re crazy enough to like the idea of the risk of civil war, you can donate to the cause with PayPal or by buying their merch. Merchandise goes as low as $15 dollars and as high as $25 bucks. Donations go at any cost. So if you like the idea go ahead and buy everything or waste perfectly good money by supporting it.
