October sports update

(Disclaimer all information in article was written the week of October (9-15) so some information regarding team records and standings will be outdated by release date)

This NFL season has started with a bang. We have seen so many incredible football games. We have only 1 undefeated football team left. The Philadelphia Eagles. They have started off 4-0. In this article, we will break down the keys to the Eagles’ early season success as well as my top 10 NFL teams through 4 weeks.

The surprise of the season so far, has been the hometown Pennsylvania team. The Philadelphia Eagles have started undefeated at 4-0. They took the NFL by storm with dominating offensive and defensive performances. They have a point differential of 44 points through 4 games. This means the Eagles are winning NFL games by an average of 11 points per game. Dominance like this is unseen. They have also played a scrappy Lions team as well as the 3-1 Vikings and 2-2 young Jaguars team. This dominance is part thanks to a shockingly good coaching staff headlined by Head Coach Nick Sirriani and defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon. These are both under the radar coaches who have really shown their talents this season. Not to mention an early MVP campaign for Jalen Hurts has begun. His dual threat ability both rushing and passing has improved. Along with the addition of Aj Brown, a stud wide out and solid defensive acquisitions. The NFL shouldn’t be this surprised by the Eagles’ early season success.

Top 10 NFL teams week 5 2022

1 Eagles

2 Bills

3 Chiefs

4 Bucceners

5 Ravens

6 Dolphins

7 Vikings

8 49ers

9 Bengals

10 Rams

Now before you begin crying and complaining about your team not being ranked where you want them, or not being ranked at all, let me explain. I see the top 4 teams as a tier. The Eagles and Buccaneers are the 2 best teams in the NFC and the Chiefs and Bills are the 2 best teams in the AFC. The Bills’ explosive offense is enough to scare an opposing team’s defense. Although, their overly Josh Allen dependent offense could be a problem come playoff time. The Chiefs offense doesn’t look quite as explosive as in years past due to the loss of Tyreek Hill. I trust Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes to figure out ways to win football games which they always do. The Buccaneers have had a rough 2-2 start to the season. I blame that on the fact that their top 3 wideouts, (Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Julio Jones) have all missed time due to injury or suspension. Tom Brady has kept the Buccs in games without these guys. Once the Buccaneers get back to full health they will be a force to be reckoned with. Lastly, we have the Eagles and since they are the only undefeated team left they deserve the #1 spot. They haven’t played any other elite elite teams yet but they have played another team featured in the top 10, (Vikings) who they beat 24-7. The 2 teams who just missed this top 4 tier are the Ravens and the Dolphins. The Dolphins have beaten both the Bills and the Ravens but the fact that their QB Tua is out of the picture due to a serious concussion. I’m not quite sure how the offense will look with Teddy Bridwater under center, which is why I have the Ravens slightly higher. I trust in Lamar

Jackson. He is an early MVP candidate and is one of the most explosive players in all of the NFL. With him as the Ravens quarterback there is no doubt in my mind that the Ravens have a chance to win the entire AFC. Their lack of veterans in the secondary though gives me some worries. They have been beaten over the top and allow too many big plays and comebacks. Now the last 4 teams are all about the same for me. They are clearly worse than the 5th and 6th teams. That’s the Vikings, 49ers, Bengals, and Rams. Surprisingly, both the teams that made the Superbowl last year have had slow starts to this season. Their defenses have let up points and their offenses haven’t looked quite in sync. Still they remain better than most teams and I expect improvement soon. The Vikings and 49ers have each had interesting starts. The 49ers’ QB Trey Lance went down, but they appear to be more dangerous with backup Jimmy Garropolo under center. Theirrunning game is solid and Kyle Shannahan is constantly bringing together winning football teams. The Vikings, ranked #7, seem to be in close games every week, barely beating teams like the Saints. The Vikings though always seem to find a way to eek out close victories, their only defeat coming to the Eagles in week 2. There’s no shame in losing to the #1 ranked team.

NFL pickem My picks

Thursday Night- Colts vs Broncos Broncos 23-17

Sunday @ 1pm- Titans vs Commanders Commanders 24-17

Sunday @ 4pm- Cowboys vs Rams Rams 31-27

Sunday Night- Ravens vs Bengals Ravens 27-23

Monday Night- Raiders vs Chiefs Chiefs 34-24

A quick rundown for my picks. The Broncos offense is due to have a good game at some point. The Colts lackluster defense gives them opportunity. Jonathan Taylor, the Colts stud running back, is also out

for the game. The Commanders sit at 1-3 they need a win to keep the season alive. The Titans beat the Colts last week and are due for a trap game loss to the Washington offense, which has been inconsistent, but explosive, this season. The Rams are the clear pick against the Cowboys. The Rams have a good culture coach and quarterback and are just too talented to start 1-3. The Cowboys backup, Cooper Rush, is due for a down game against a tough Rams defense. At the Sunday night game, we have an intense division matchup: Ravens vs Bengals. I just think the Ravens have a better team through and through. I like Lamar Jackson to win, coming off of a devastating loss to the Bills last week. Although, due to the Ravens lacking secondary, I expect a high scoring outing from both teams. Lastly is Monday Night, where the Chiefs are the clear pick. They have a better offense, defense coach, and quarterback. Although all division matchups are intense, I think that the Raiders will come out strong, but fade late.

This concludes the October sports update. We will see you next month with more rankings, more picks, and even more sports information.
