Pennsylvania Urban Legends

Urban Legends are the things that happen in places that people don't always talk about or discuss. Urban Legends can be taken multiple ways, there are some who believe them, some who don't, and some who don't know nor do they care. We've all heard of Urban Legends at some point in life, whether we believe them or not, they’re there. Almost every state has them, just sometimes we don't deep dive into them, today I'm going to take a dive into Pennsylvania Urban Legends such as, “The Seven Gates of Hell” (York), “The Green Man” (Pittsburgh) “Blue Myst Road” (Pittsburgh), “Bus to Nowhere” (Philadelphia), and finally “The Devils Road” (Chadds Ford).

In “The Seven Gates of Hell”, there was an insane asylum that burnt down in York, PA. Legend has it the patients who survived the fire are still lurking there today, so they built the seven gates of hell to trap them in. The thing is, you can only see one of them in the day, but you can see all seven at night…people of York state that any person who passes through all seven gates goes directly to Hell. But the creepy thing is, everyone remembers the asylum to be a thing at one point, but it never existed; it was never even built, and it never burnt down because it was never there. Only a single gate was there for people to see, some believe that with this one, Satan himself opened a demonic portal at night to drag people in. Others believe it was just an old wise tale parents told their kids to keep them away from the gate.

For “The Green Man” there were residents of South Park that were walking at night when they saw a human-like figure that appeared to be faceless with a green glow to the head. The man was Ray Robinson, he was severely injured when he was electrocuted as a child and he ended up losing most of his facial features, he only came out at night because of the “disfigurement” of his face. People who stop and talk to the man state that he's actually really nice. Unfortunately, due to his disfigured face, people typically approach him with a very violent tone. Ray Robinson died in 1985 at age 74 due to natural causes. Things like this story is why you should never judge a book by its cover, you never know what someones true story is, until you take time to read it.

However, with this one you should judge a book by its cover and stay away from “Blue Myst Road.” Legend states on the road is a cemetery surrounded by woods, and in those woods stands a house that used to be a witch's. Surrounding her house are half dog, half deer, half human “animals” that will attack anyone who gets too close to their territory.

By the name alone, you can guess what happens on the “Bus to Nowhere.” This bus in Philly stops at a bus stop and picks people up like any other bus. However, only people who are at a very low point of their life can see the bus, and once you get on the bus, you will see the “lifeless” people that are riding on it; they are too dazed to realize that they’re on a bus with people. Once you sit down, you too become a lifeless figure with no remembrance of why you're on the bus, don't know where you're going, you just sit there, eventually, you will get off the bus at the exact same spot you got on. But you will have zero remembrance of riding it, some people have been riding the bus for years upon years, some of them… are actually dead but no one knows because everyone looks the same.

Ladies, gents, and all others, last but not least we have “The Devil's Road.” According to the legend, there was a man, M. Night Shymalan, who filmed a 2004 horror film in a big field that they later found out had a house deeper into that field. People state that this house was home to a very wealthy man who had his family resort to inbreeding in order to keep their wealth alive. The house was called "The Cult House". It was used as a place to perform incestuous marriages and a place to hide the deformed offspring of the inbreds.

Now you all know about our state's urban legends and the freaky events that lead to them. Possibly think about which ones were your favorite, or maybe which ones you believe for that matter. Every state has urban legends that haven't exactly been approached. If you want you can find all urban legends of any state your heart desires on this website.
