As we all know, the 2018-19 school year is almost here. In this article I’ll be asking Greenwood d students how excited they are about this school year and what they are looking forward to this year. I will be getting answers by polls, and interviews from some Greenwood
students.
To start, I put a poll out on Instagram asking followers to give a response if they are excited for school or not. This poll includes not just Greenwood students, but students from Newport, East Juniata, homeschooling, and even some college students. Over the course of 24 hours, 65 people saw the poll. 30 people responded to the poll. Out of the 30, 12 people said that they were excited for school whereas 18 said that they weren’t. One student that responded that they weren’t excited was Freshman Ellie Hoffman. When asked why she wasn’t excited for school, she responded, “I am not looking forward to getting up early, doing homework, and the stress that comes with school.” I believe many people don’t like the stress of school. If you know somebody this year that has stress from school work or other commitments, try to help them get over their stress. That’s just another way that you can make the school a better place to be this year.
I interviewed three different Greenwood students and asked them three questions. The first questions was, are you excited for school? That was the question my poll asked. But I wanted to get a one-on-one answer from some people. The second question asked was, what are are you looking forward to this school year. This question gave the students being interviewed a chance to share what they like most about school. The last question was, what do you think you can do to make this school year a good one for you and other students. I want to know how students want to make the school a place people actually want to be at.
The first person I interviewed was Freshman Emily Hixon. I asked her the first question and she said, “for the most part, yes, but I’m not looking forward to all the stress.” Her answer for the second question was, “I am looking forward to seeing my friends and teachers again!” Then I asked the third question. She responded by saying, “ I think if students work hard and do their best, this will be a successful school year!.”
Then I interviewed Sophomore Leah Bryner. Her answer for the first question was “I’m not excited for school, I’m more neutral about going back.” She answered this for the second question, “I like to see my friends on a daily basis and other people from our school. I enjoy having something to do everyday. School also means sports start back up which I really enjoy!”. Her answer for the last question was, “Being involved in a lot of things that are fun and occupying like clubs and sports. Also just trying to always be a positive influence in people’s lives and having a good attitude!.”
Being involved in clubs and sports are a great way to make your time at school a fun one. Greenwood has many different clubs and a variety of sports to choose from.
The last person I interviewed decided that she would like to remain anonymous. Her answer to the first question was that she was excited for school. She responded that,”I am looking forward to getting good grades”, when asked the second question. And finally, her answer for the third question was, “I can make this school year a good one for me by making sure I look at the positive side things and help others stay positive”.
All of these things are great ways to help make this school year great for you and other people. If anybody has any other ideas, feel free to comment below. I think that if we be joyful and show joy to others, that this school year will be a great one.
